Building our reputation as an exemplary regulator through excellent management

The challenge

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. We are here to make regulation work to deliver real world impact. Our mission is to be a trusted product regulator for the UK. The Energy and Product Enforcement Team implements a range of product, environmental and energy efficiency regulations across a wide variety of product types in a number of different sectors.

Our aim is to provide a regulatory environment in which businesses have the confidence to invest and grow whilst ensuring that consumers and the environment are protected. It means continually evolving our regulatory capability to tackle new and emerging issues. Join us as an Enforcement Manager and you could be part of this journey.

About the roles

Heading up a team that specialises in Product Safety, Ecodesign and Energy Labelling, Environmental and Supply Chain Assurance, or Online Regulation, you will improve transparency and accountability to the businesses we regulate and the citizens we serve. Reporting to an Assistant Director, you’ll look to develop, organise and deliver a varied programme of work with your team, including your own investigative casework. Setting priorities and managing resources, you’ll also need to adapt to changes in legislation and markets, addressing new issues and solving problems as they arise. Coaching and motivating others, and maintaining strong working relationships, both internally and externally, are all key to your success.

About you

With evidence of strong leadership skills, you will have experience in a management or supervisory role within the field of regulation, enforcement or compliance. Eager to take ownership, you’ll be adept at influencing others and unafraid to challenge them.  Excellent all-round communication skills are essential, and you’ll be confident about developing and maintaining positive working relationships. You will have experience of using a variety of regulatory tools to achieve impact and will be keen to work with your team and others across OPSS to identify important problems and develop innovative ways to fix them.

Benefits

We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, learning and development tailored to your role, and a Civil Service pension.
