Assessment & Support Planning

Be Bold. Be Birmingham. Be your best in Adult Social Care.

Join our dynamic team and you can do more than enhance the lives of adults. You can expand your expertise and lead on best practice.

About the role

It’s an opportunity to enjoy autonomy in your role as you manage a complex caseload meeting the individual needs of citizens and their carers. Working with a range of health and social care professionals, including the voluntary sector, your role will also involve providing specialist input in complex situations within and outside the organisation.

Taking part in AMHP forums as well as independent research, we’ll encourage you to expand and share your knowledge to help maintain our learning culture and play a proactive role in developing new initiatives. As a role model of professional best practice one of your responsibilities will be helping to train AMHP candidates, including providing shadowing opportunities for colleagues interested in the AMHP programme.

About us

Birmingham is a vibrant, courageous, resilient city, where great things are happening. And that goes far beyond hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It’s about the renewed investment, ongoing regeneration and the fierce ambition we have for the future of our brilliant city and citizens.

We’re not afraid to say we want to be the best in adult social care – because that means better outcomes for the individuals we’re all here for. We make sure our teams have what they need to be at their best, too. The diversity of our communities and scale of our service means a greater variety of social care challenges and more scope for innovation. Whether you’re in one of our 10 teams piloting new systems or bringing your own bold ideas to approach the way we work, you can find lots of ways to keep learning and growing.

About you

You should be eligible to be registered with Social Work England or a professional body (HCPC, Royal College of Nursing, British Psychological Society etc) and entitled to be warranted under the Mental Health Act.

We’d like you to bring:

  • Extensive knowledge of AMHP practice and relevant legislation.
  • A clear understanding of policy and procedure for social work with adults.
  • Excellent assessment and support planning skills.
  • Experience of partnership working both corporately with other Directorates and external organisations.

What we offer in return

We’re committed to creating an environment that promotes diversity and inclusivity, healthy lifestyle choices, wellbeing and balance. We’ll empower you to be the best you can be, with coaching, mentoring and training programmes that meet your professional and personal development needs at every stage of your career with us.

We’re also proud to offer:

  • Family friendly policies.
  • A range of benefits, including membership of the West Midlands Pension Fund, discounted gym membership and a confidential employee assistance programme.
  • 29 days’ annual leave increasing with length of service, plus the option to purchase additional days.
  • Golden Hello payment - £1,000, (upon external appointment)
  • Recruitment & Retention Payment - £5,000 per annum (paid monthly over a 12month period, pro rota for part time staff)

Approved Mental Health Practitioners (AMHPs) who are actively working on the AMHP rota will receive a fixed payment of £1,800 per annum, paid in monthly instalments at £150 per month. Due to the unique nature of these duties, the payment shall not be pro-rated if the employee is part-time.

OOH staff and AMHP’s working the twilight shift (between 8pm – 10pm) would be entitled to time and a third for hours worked between 8pm and 6am only when part of the normal working week for the business area.
