Job Details

Part Time - Fixed Term Contract for 18 months 

We are looking for a Planning Lawyer to join the Council’s Legal Services Team on an 18-month fixed term contract. The role available is part- time with a minimum of 2 days (14 hours 48 minutes) per week up to a maximum of 4 days per week (29 hours 36 minutes).

The post is for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent, ideally with prior local government experience. The successful candidate will have an eye for detail, excellent drafting skills and the ability to provide legal advice to a variety of audiences, including senior officers. The individual will be accustomed to working at pace in a busy team.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage a varied workload in all areas of planning law including but not limited to:

•    Advising on planning applications
•    Drafting and negotiating S.106 agreements
•    Advising planning committee meetings and reviewing associated reports
•    Supporting planning appeals, judicial reviews and statutory challenges
•    Advising on planning policy matters 
•    Supporting planning enforcement

The successful candidate must have a sound knowledge of planning law and be able to work effectively at all levels across the council including with elected members, senior leadership team and other stakeholders.
