Electoral Services Manager, Wychavon District Council 

£36,371 - £39,816 per annum

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and inspiring to manage a small permanent team as well as the large numbers of casual staff recruited during election times. 

This role is responsible for the management of all aspects of Electoral Services at Wychavon District Council. This service provides the Districts Electoral Services and conducts all elections and associated services as required.

The post requires someone who has an electoral services background and can demonstrate experience of dealing with the day to day pressures during an election cycle from annual canvases, bye-elections, neighbourhood referendums, absent voter lists to running full elections.

We are also looking for someone who will be responsible for championing and demonstrating the Council’s Leadership Behaviour Framework by inspiring, communicating, collaborating and empowering self and others and leading by example.

Key Requirements:

Key requirements for the role are:

* Association of Electoral Administrators qualification (or willingness/ ability to study for the same)

* Excellent IT skills, with knowledge of electoral services software.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Flexible approach to a variety of work, ability to work evenings and weekends.  Prior to, during and just after any election of any type and annual canvass the post holder will be required to work additional hours outside of normal working hours in evenings and weekends at short notice with constraints on leave during elections.

Skills & Experience:

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • Significant experience in Elections and Electoral registration with extensive knowledge of all aspects and roles of Elections and Electoral Registration including having managed or experienced at least 3 major elections or combinations of elections.
  • Good knowledge of Electoral and Registration Law as well as Experience of using electoral services management software
  • Experience of managing and leading a team of permanent staff including trainees and casual / temporary staff.
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders including elected members and parish councils.
  • Experience of writing and presenting reports
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies / guidance. As well as writing and presenting reports
  • Providing legal advice on electoral matters.
