Are you ready to start your transport planning journey? Telford & Wrekin Council has an exciting opportunity to join the Highways, Transport and Engineering teams as a Transport Planner Apprentice where we will support you to become a Qualified Transport Planner through the completion of a comprehensive apprentice programme including achieving a BSc in Transport Planning and securing Transport Planning Professional status.
Alongside the academic programme, you will have the opportunity to work alongside the various teams across the highways, engineering and transport teams over a 5 year period which will give you a solid foundation to build your career upon as a Transport Planner at Telford & Wrekin Council.
You will gain an understanding of various disciplines, and will be a key member of the team taking projects from inception to delivery. The programme will provide you experience of the following areas (but not limited to):
- Transport Policy & Strategy
- Transport Data & Surveying
- Transport Modelling
- Traffic and Road Safety Engineering
- Highways Engineering
- Project Management and Delivery
- Public Transport Operations
- Development Management (Highways)
- Contract Management
You will progress from a Transport Planning Apprentice to a Transport Planning Technician following the successful completion of the first two years of the programme. You will then progress to a Transport Planner after successful completion of your BSc in Transport Planning.
We have 626 miles of road, 743 miles of footpaths, 132 cycle ways, 20,000 street lights, and 120 roundabouts, around 400 parks and open spaces and around 15 million trees.
As part of the Council’s 4 year investment programme to Protect, Care and Invest to create a better borough, between 2020 and 2024 we are investing over £50m to keep neighbourhoods safe, clean and well connected. The ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme will deliver improvements to infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parking, sustainable transport, street furniture, drains and structures and you could be part of our ambitious plans to deliver record levels of investment in to our Borough.
