Job Details
Situated in North Worcestershire, Bromsgrove District Council shares services with its neighbouring authority of Redditch. The Councils are committed to being a customer driven organisation, with our customers at the heart of everything we do; focused on improving on delivery services that make a different o the community that we serve.
The role requires the provision of legal advice and assistance in relation to contracts, procurement and other commercial projects to Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council and other bodies as appropriate, in support of operational matters and the Councils’ emerging commercialisation initiatives.
- To give advice to Council officers / departments on contract and procurement matters - To prepare / approve and advise on various legal agreements as required, in accordance with the Council’s Contract Procedure Rules, Procurement Rules and Financial Regulations
-To give corporate support to both Councils and related bodies
-To give advice to both Councils on commercial opportunities and alternative service delivery models
-To support the Procurement Officer
- To participate in and advise cross-disciplinary groups in relation to corporate projects
- To advise and carry out the necessary legal work to facilitate corporate initiatives

Knowledge and Experience
Ability to deal with own caseload with minimal supervision in respect of:
- Drafting / approving of contracts (experience essential)
-Other agreements on behalf of the Council (experience essential)
- Procurement process and procedures (experience desirable)
- Corporate support Vires for commercial initiatives (experience desirable)
-Ability to supervise and monitor others (experience essential)
-Ability to work on own initiative and as a team member under pressure (experience essential)
-Proven people skills (experience essential)
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
-Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience (3 years experience is desirable but less post qualification experience will be considered)
Work Related Circumstances
-Attendance at occasional evening Committee meetings (essential)
- Willingness to work flexibly between Redditch Town Hall and Parkside, Bromsgrove (essential)

-Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customer (essential)
- Willingness to take ownership of professional development (essential)
-Ability to work effectively as part of a team (essential)
