REPORTS TO: Senior Youth Worker

 

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Volunteers

 

LOCATION: Wyre Forest 

 

WORKING HOURS: Part Time, 9 hrs per week.

 

SALARY: £22,500 (pro-rata)

 

TERM: Initially fixed until 31 March 2023*

                                      

JOB SUMMARY.

Kidderminster & District Youth Trust are seeking self-motivated, enthusiastic professionals to join our team and lead in the engagement young people through regular detached sessions.

Detached Youth Workers engage young people where they choose to meet; be it parks, shops, rural areas, or housing estates. It is about empowering, informally educating and supporting young people within their community. Detached Youth Workers literally enter the ‘space’ occupied by young people, and the dynamics are different to other youth work. The key to success is the positive relationships built and this requires time, commitment, and really good negotiation skills.

KDYT are seeking self-motivated, enthusiastic, fun, professional and passionate people, with proven experience of engaging, mentoring, and supporting young people. You will be young person focused, actively involve young people in your work and work to exceed young people’s expectations.

You will thrive working in a busy and friendly environment and will be able to work on your own initiative, taking responsibility for the achievement of targets as well as having the ability to work as a member of the team within a complex, changing, and challenging environment.

You will engage in effective multi-agency working with partner agencies working in local communities and you will have significant experience of working with young people, young adults and employers and be willing to work evenings and weekends.

The post holder will provide a valuable resource for KDYT to enable it to achieve the Trust objectives. Dealing with a variety of youth project delivery tasks in a diverse and busy internal and external environment, ensuring deadlines are met whilst maintaining quality.

KEY TASKS.

Project Delivery:

Deliver detached work throughout the Wyre Forest District using a range of youth work methods to build trust and relationships with young people.

Engage with young people and other members of the community, working with them to identify key issues in their lives and in the communities in which they live.

To support in design, planning, preparing and delivery of a number of projects to meet identified needs. To fully involve young people in all aspects of the projects.

To work with partner agencies to ensure a holistic, solution focused approach to the projects and best outcomes for young people and their communities.

To ensure timely and accurate submission of evidence and the preparation of monitoring reports to assist in the compilation of claims to for funders.

Provide appropriate levels of mentoring, support, advice, and guidance to young people when they are carrying out planned activities.

Encourage young people’s strengths, talents and gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them.

Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement when appropriate.

Support young people in articulating their views on issues which affect them and act as advocates on their behalf.

Particularly to support young people’s participation in local decision making.

Performance Targets:

Achievements of targets and outcomes imposed by all funders.

All reporting information completed and submitted according to schedules.

To contribute to the ongoing development of the work of KDYT.

Additional Requirements:

Integrate with wider team and share knowledge to benefit the holistic development of programmes.

To operate in a pro-active and innovative manner, to generate solutions which support young people from diverse backgrounds, holding a belief in young people’s ability to be genuinely involved in processes that help them reach their full potential.

Comply with all organisational policy and procedures.

To be aware of, and assume the appropriate level of responsibility for, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and to report any concerns in accordance with the organisation’s safeguarding policies

Ability to work outside normal office hours. Any other duties commensurate with the level of the post.
