Fathers Worker 

Project Worker 1 (37/18.5/15 hours p/w). 

Barnardo's is proud to be commencing delivery of Sandwell's Children's Centres across the Borough. The service will provide a range of quality services for families, locally designed for the 6 town areas of the Borough, divided into 3 areas:

Cluster A - Oldbury, Smethwick

Cluster B - Tipton, Rowley Regis

Cluster C - Wednesbury and West Bromwich

Across the cluster, we are committed to delivering a robust offer for communities and residents, designed to promote access to services, reduce barriers to engagement and build resilient communities.

The Health, Well-Being, and Engagement team will take an active lead to working with health practitioners, partner organisations, local communities and residents to achieve best outcomes for the families within that area (for the purpose of this JD parents includes parents, carers and guardians).

Barnardo's Children's Centres in Sandwell will give fathers and male carers a range of consistent and exciting provision designed   to hear their choices, feelings and identified needs, provide information advice and guidance, give them activities and a platform for greater involvement with their child and offer targeted and practical support. All our staff team will receive awareness sessions, designed                           to ensure understanding of the needs of fathers/male carers is consistent across our offer.  

Objectives/key activities – Fathers and Male Carers worker - Health, Well-Being and Engagement Team

  • Plan and deliver initiatives and services within the Health, Well Being, Engagement and Communities elements of the Sandwell Childrens Centre offer.
  • Plan and deliver targeted service elements for Fathers and Male carers, producing KPI's and outcomes i.e.:
  • Community engagement events, using Asset-Based community Development approaches, in partnership with an integrated offer across the Borough, aimed at increasing engagement of fathers and male carers
  • Targeted Mental health support initiatives for fathers/male carers (i.e., Mood Masters)
  • Targeted Family days/community events aimed at attracting and engaging Fathers/Male carers
  • Dedicated support for Fathers to access Universal and targeted services (i.e., Parenting sessions, early years offer, SEND specialist support and family Support)
  • Deliver activities and opportunities for Voice and Influence work with fathers/male carers to support the co-production and representation of fathers/male carers through the services, including supporting fathers/male carers in Parent Champion Schemes and other consultation events.
  • To support delivery of ante-natal education programmes through Sandwell Children's Centres utilising a combination of children's centre staff and specialist tutors to encourage attendance from fathers/male carers.
  • Support the design, maintenance and promotion of materials and opportunities designed to attract, engage, and build relationships with fathers/male carers in communities, including through the Virtual Childrens Centre Offer, social media, newsletters etc.
  • Work with the wider teams, including support for volunteers, to deliver activities and service specifics for fathers/male carers
  • Work with the wider teams within the Children's Centre Offer to meet the needs of the service across the borough.

To meet the needs of the service evening and weekend work will need to be undertaken as required. Any other duties deemed appropriate within your job role to reflect the needs of the service
