Lecturer Level 1 - ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.
We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.
We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.
Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:
- Nursery Workers
- Teaching Assistants
- Leadership/Management; and
- Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.
Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?
We have a 1-year fixed-term contract available for 5-10 teaching hours/week.
We also have two further permanent posts up to teaching 20 hours/week.
This is an opportunity for appropriately qualified candidates to join the enthusiastic, committed and experienced Coventry Adult Education Service ESOL team. We deliver high quality, accredited programmes to men and women from a range of cultural backgrounds across Coventry. Classes run in the daytime and two evenings a week.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).Who are we looking for?
We are looking for ESOL tutors to join our team. You should have an appropriate teaching qualification and an ESOL subject specialist qualification at Level 4 or above as well as a minimum qualification of Level 2 in English.
