Job Details

We want to ensure that every resident has the skills needed to find a good job and progress at work, and that businesses in the region have access to support that will accelerate productivity and deliver economic growth.

Our Economic Delivery, Skills and Communities team has made great strides in delivering policies and programmes to support these objectives, but we want to do more.

We’re looking for Data Analysts who will support this ambition through the monitoring, reporting and evaluation of labour market, skills and economic data.

You’ll be responsible for identifying, analysing and interpreting data to ensure our work is evidence-led, and our policies and programmes are shaped to best meet the needs of the region.

You will have strong analytical skills and a commitment to using these to make a positive impact on skills and economic growth across the region.

With more funding and responsibility heading our way, we are looking to strengthen and develop our analytical capability, to ensure we take an evidence-based approach to addressing regional challenges and optimising opportunities.

This is initially fixed term for 2 years

What will you be doing?

  • Identify, collate, analyse and report on labour market, skills and economic data, seeking to correlate and integrate these with other secondary and primary data sources in order to generate insight.
  • Respond efficiently to requests for data and intelligence from colleagues, partners and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development and application of new data analysis and reporting systems and techniques.
  • Produce data analytics and visualisations, trend monitoring and reporting which clearly identifies insights and value-added information to inform the development of policy, strategy and mitigations
  • Actively promote data analysis undertaken through events, blog posts and social media
  • Review intelligence requirements on an ongoing basis and propose actions to fill gaps in knowledge.

Economic Delivery, Skills and Communities seeks to ensure that every resident has the skills needed to find a good job and progress at work, and that businesses in the region have access to support that will accelerate productivity and deliver economic growth. And we are committed to working with local partners to ensure that all of our communities are able to benefit from this growth.

The team is committed to driving an inclusive regional economy through its policy leadership, commissioning and delivery of economic and skills programmes and championing opportunities for good growth. We will do this by working closely with local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, universities, the West Midlands Growth Company, businesses and business representative groups, colleges, providers and a range of Government partners and agencies as diverse as UKRI, DWP, the British Business Bank and the British Film Institute.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has well developed technical and analytical skills. You will be experienced in interpreting the implications of your analysis for policy and programmes and motivated by the opportunity to use these skills to make an impact within the region.

You’ll have experience in identifying and manipulating a range of data to produce meaningful outputs. Being able to communicate well both in person and in writing is critically important, particularly for non-technical audiences.
