Job Details

Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) is the Shared Environmental Health and Licensing Service for all six Worcestershire District Councils, hosted by Bromsgrove District Council.  WRS is based at Wyre Forest District Council offices in Kidderminster but we operate across the county and for some service areas wider afield.

As part of Bromsgrove District Council we are committed to being a customer driven organisation, with our customers at the heart of everything we do; focused on improving on delivery services that make a different o the community that we serve.

This is a new part-time post (18.5 hours) with Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) to assist Worcester City Council and Bath & North East Somerset Council and the existing Technical Officer (Gull Control) to coordinate and deliver the gull control work programme in both these local authority areas.

With the aim of reducing the negative impacts of living alongside gulls, WRS have been developing knowledge and understanding of the urban gull populations of Worcester and Bath.  Everyone recognises the birds as a feature of towns and cities, but little is known about their behaviour.  Understanding this is key to influencing the design of the urban environment minimising the friction between our species and theirs.

The post holder will work alongside and support the current Officer by communicating with residents, landlords, businesses and Councillors to identify and reduce the negative impacts.  It is envisaged this will be achieved through a variety of methods selected on a case by case basis.  We have delivered a successful gull management campaign in the City of Worcester for a number of years building on our experience and knowledge.  This year we are also supporting Bath and North East Somerset with their work programme with the possibility that this might be repeated in future years.  The post holder will primarily work in Worcester and/or Bath with an office base in Kidderminster.  Initially the post is fixed until 31st March 2022, with the possibility that the role may be extended and potentially become full time.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and articulate individual, with either bird control or relevant project management experience to join WRS’ Technical Pollution team.  essential criteria they will have to meet.

The post holder must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for use at work.

We offer our staff a range of benefits including pension, generous leave entitlements, flexible working and access to an employee benefits platform (salary sacrifice schemes, high street discount etc)
