Clerk to Governors at Blackwood School and Brownhills West School

Actual Salary £1,215-£1,240

Required from September 2022

We are two academies, part of the Central Co-operative Learning Trust and we are looking for a Clerk to Governors. The Clerk would act as an advisor to each of our Local Governing Boards (LGB) on governance matters and ensure the correct procedures are followed in line with the Academy’s Handbook and the Trust’s policies.

The right person does not require prior experience as a Clerk as we will give them full training. We are looking for a professional person, with a good attention to detail with strong organisational, IT and grammatical skills.

The successful candidate would be required to attend each governors’ meeting, of which there are approximately 15 meetings a year at Blackwood School, during term time, the majority of which are normally on a Monday evening at 5:30pm or if we were required to revert to remote meetings these would take place on Teams at 7pm. There will be approximately 7 meetings at Brownhills West School, the majority of which normally take place on a Tuesday evening at 5pm or if we were required to revert to remote meetings these would take place on Teams or Zoom at 5pm. Most meetings last no more than two hours, however you would need to be flexible. The actual salary is based on 108 hours a year; additional payments will be made for extra training hours or additional meetings.

You would be required to support the LGBs in all governance matters by producing purposeful agendas before each meeting, clerk meetings of the LGB and its sub committees and ensure minutes are produced promptly. You would also support the Chair and the Headteacher in each school in a wide variety of matters including the recruitment of new governors, the collation of skills audits, collection of meeting attendance data, ensuring policies are timetabled for updates and other ad hoc tasks.

The Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks including but not limited to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS clearance.
