Coventry's Special Educational Needs Service is committed to working with families and partners to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This diverse service has responsibility for a range of important statutory educational work within Coventry. We are here to deliver the aspirational challenge set to us by young people with SEND and their families: ‘To Lift the Cloud of Limitation and enable them to enjoy an ordinary life’.

When Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) completed a Local Area inspection of Coventry in October 2019, they commended our “genuine passion and commitment to get things right for children and young people with SEND and their families”; our respect for the “lived experiences of children and young people with SEND and their parents” and the “strong partnership between school settings and education service providers’.

What is the job role?

As an EHCP Coodinator working on Post 16 EHCPs you will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining and occasionally writing Education Health and Care Plans to support young people in their progression through Post 16 education and in preparation for adulthood. This will require close collaborative work with partner services, planning transition between education settings and supporting childrens'/adults’ services.

You will be responsible for attending annual review meetings where you will represent the Local Authority, providing information and guidance to young people, their families and other professionals. Candidates will need to evidence strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to resolve disagreements and demonstrate an ability to manage a caseload of complex cases through exceptional organisational and prioritising skills.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for enabling young people with SEND to be the best they can. We work across a diverse age range from 0-25 years. To be successful we need you to have a good understanding of the Special Educational Needs Legislation and an excellent knowledge of how the reforms work at a practical level. You will have substantial experience of working in a post-16 educational setting where you have seen first-hand the lived experiences of young people with special educational needs. You will need to have a minimum of A level standard English and Maths as in Coventry we expect all our Education, Health and Care Plans to be of high quality. You will be an excellent communicator and used to working in collaboration with a range of agencies. You will also be used to juggling competing demands.
