If you could transform a great city, how would you do it?

Birmingham is a city on the move. Join our Transport Development and Information team and you can go further too. We’re a city that leads the way. And at Birmingham City Council, we have a huge growth agenda for housing and commercial space as part of Development Plan, which generates a diverse range of private developer works on the public highway that often need innovative solutions and timely implementation as part of a seamless customer journey working with planning and transport development control colleagues.

This role is all about managing project delivery and information flows.  Infrastructure projects which are in line with the Council’s capital programme or third-party delivery bodies like the Combined Authority and Private Developers.  This means there’ll be a specific focus on Section 38 and Section 278 projects and works.

There’ll be lots of opportunity to work closely with a new Head of Transport Development and Information as well as managing your own team of around nine specialists at different organisational levels.  There’ll be finances to manage as well as team colleagues to mentor and governance processes to monitor.  All this is key to ensuring that transport and highways infrastructure projects acknowledge the statutory planning process and timelines.

An expert in transport infrastructure and information, you offer senior-level experience of service delivery.  You’re a Chartered or appropriately qualified Civil Engineer, with a track-record of managing projects and programmes, as well as financial resources and colleagues. Experience of monitoring performance is essential. It’s likely you’re adept at communicating and consulting with clients, developers, stakeholders and citizen communities.

Thrive in an environment that promotes diversity and inclusivity, healthy lifestyle choices, wellbeing and balance. We’ll empower you to be the best you can be, with coaching, mentoring and training programmes that meet your professional and personal development needs at every stage of your career with us.

We also offer:

  • Family friendly policies.
  • A range of benefits, including membership of the West Midlands Pension Fund, discounted gym membership and a confidential employee assistance programme.
  • 29 days’ annual leave increasing with length of service, plus the option to purchase additional days.
