Your role

In this varied role, you’ll be managing and supporting a team advising Local Planning Authorities (LPAs), developers and their agents, and LPA policy teams on all aspects of highways planning. As well as guiding your team to ensure they prepare, present and defend consistent and clear recommendations, you’ll also manage a range of key strategic relationships. This includes leading a range of major projects, including sites of regional significance.

You’ll also be involved in negotiating CIL/Section 106 agreement matters for wider transport services and providing planning expertise on developments for mitigation and site-specific requirements. In addition, you’ll attend public meetings and public inquiries as the council representative and answer queries on developments and transport works from developers and the public, as well as council members, MPs and agencies.

Your skills and experience

A proven leader with experience of recruiting, motivating and developing a team, you’ll have extensive knowledge of the planning process in relation to highways and transport infrastructure, including the Highways Act and relevant laws. You’ll also understand the link between land use planning and transport, and will have experience of attending planning committees and giving evidence at public inquiries. This will be combined with experience of dealing with complaints and disputes, and you’ll be used to liaising with developers, owners and occupiers, and non-professional groups and individuals. You’ll also be a registered member of an engineering, highway or planning professional body, such as C.Eng, I.Eng, CIHT or MRTPI
