Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a team who focus on tackling Environmental Crime within the Borough of East Staffordshire.

Enforcement Services consists of three teams - Enforcement, Community & Civil Enforcement and Licensing. In this role, you will provide technical support for both the Enforcement and Community & Civil Enforcement teams.

Enforcement deal with fly tipping, untidy gardens, travellers, compliance of private hire & hackney carriage drivers, and vehicles and private hire operators. Licensing Act 2003 compliance checks, insecure properties, anti-social behaviour, duty of care in relation to waste contracts, high hedges and unauthorised signage. Whilst Community & Civil Enforcement are mainly the patrolling team engaging with the community and residents, and educating or enforcing where necessary. They investigate fly-tipping, dog related issues, abandoned vehicles and littering amongst a variety of other issues they come across. They report findings to the relevant departments within the Council for action or action themselves via issuance of Fixed Penalty Notices for Environmental Crime offences or Penalty Charge Notices for off-street parking offences.

Both teams work closely in providing an efficient service for the community.

The successful candidate will provide support to front line officers by gathering intelligence through initial enquiries, which will support ongoing investigations.

As a highly motivated individual you will bring a fresh and innovative approach to the team. Your positive attitude will contribute towards a high standard of customer service, which the teams prides itself on.

Although training commensurate with the position will be provided, experience in a relevant capacity would be advantageous. This role will provide you with a detailed insight into Enforcement Services as a whole, offering you the perfect stepping stone for progression within the Council.

You must have a minimum of GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications; excellent communication and interpersonal skills with negotiation and conflict management skills, a professional telephone manner and able and willing to take responsibility.
You must have excellent IT skills as the work involves all Microsoft programmes as well as a variety of internal Council systems.
You should be self motivated to work both autonomously and as part of a team and able to multi task across a range of disciplines.

A qualification in respect of Environmental Crime and Licensing would be desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided.

In return, we offer flexible working, homeworking, development opportunities, pension scheme and free car parking. We are also located close to the train station

The Council is actively building diverse teams and welcomes applications from everyone, including people of different age, sex, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. ESBC is a Disability Confident Employer.
