As the Independent Fostering Reviewing Officer, you will:

  • Manage, monitor and coordinate the completion of timely Annual Reviews of Walsall’s Approved Foster Carers, contributing to both practice and service development.

Our ideal person will:

  • Have good knowledge of the work undertaken by fostering teams

  • Be a confident decision maker and excellent communicator with the ability to form strong working relationships
  • Demonstrate a commitment to achieving permanence for children
  • Work with the wider management team to identify Foster Carer and staff training needs relating to issues arising from Foster Carer Reviews and to develop and deliver training programmes.
  • Use you analytical skills to interpret data and to produce a range of reports for the Fostering Service.
  • Be a reflective practitioner who is keen to work with and support to social work staff involved in relevant activities within the service, providing case work management and individual support to social work staff and other staff across the service when managers are not available.
  • You will offer high support and high challenge to your colleagues and inspire to do their very best for Walsall children. On a personal level, you will need to be genuine, friendly and driven – and you will share our commitment to supporting the children in our community.

What we can offer:

  • In return, we are committed to your ongoing personal and professional development and you will benefit from our management training and leadership opportunities.
  • You will be welcomed into a team where we will work together to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families and carers.
  • Building positive relationships is important not just with the children, young people and their families we work with, but with Foster Carers and also with each other.

In Walsall, we have high aspirations for our looked after children and aim to be the best corporate parents that we can be. The newly created post of Independent Fostering Reviewing Officer is an important addition in making these aspirations a reality.
