Job title: Prison Library Supervisor

Salary:  £20,043 - £21,269 per annum (pro rata) (Grade 5)

Location: Oakwood Prison, WV10 7QD

Contract type: Permanent

Working Pattern: 37 Hours per week | Full time | 18.5hrs | Part time | We’re happy to discuss options

About the role

Are you looking for a rewarding role? We see our library roles as more of a vocation, because you’ll be part of a community of partners, providing a much-needed service to our library users. The library is crucial in supporting the wellbeing of those in prison and it helps to promote positive behaviours in those library users. So, the work you’ll do will have a real impact on people lives and the community.

HMP Oakwood is a category C adult male prison which has a team of 4 Library Assistants, led by the Library Supervisor. The library is much loved and a well-used and valued resource within the Prison and is open daily Monday to Saturday. This post usually operates Monday to Friday am / pm and one Saturday (am) in 4.

The library operates within Staffordshire County Council Prison Library Service and the on-site staff work closely with library staff in the other SCC Prison Libraries, as well as with SCC PLS management team and various on-site Prison teams and Partner teams.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a positive and proactive person with great customer service skills and a love of reading. We’re looking for a confident and calm person with integrity, a strong work ethic and effective and positive communication skills.

You’ll be someone who enjoys a challenge and embraces change, who is a natural leader and team player. This is an opportunity to make a real difference and to demonstrate a can-do attitude and this will help you to sustain and develop not only the library space, but also the team and service.

The role may require you to adjust your timetable at times to cover absences of team members, for example, and so would suit someone with the availability and flexibility to accommodate this.
