About the role
Are you looking for a rewarding role? We see our library roles as more of a vocation, because you’ll be part of a community of partners, providing a much-needed service to our library users. The library is crucial in supporting the wellbeing of those in prison and it helps to promote positive behaviours in those library users. So, the work you’ll do will have a real impact on people lives and the community.
HMPYOI Werrington is a male juvenile prison. The Library is staffed by a team of 2 part-time staff - the Library Supervisor and the Library Assistant. The Library is a valued resource within the prison and there are ambitions to develop a more welcoming and versatile space. The Library is open daily Tuesday to Saturday, and currently the hours of this role operate from Wednesday to Saturday.
The library operates within Staffordshire County Council Prison Library Service and the on-site staff work closely with library staff in the other SCC Prison Libraries, as well as with SCC PLS management team and various on-site Prison teams and Partner teams.

You’ll be a positive and proactive person with great customer service skills and a love of reading. We’re looking for a confident and calm person with integrity, a strong work ethic and effective and positive communication skills.
You’ll be someone who enjoys a challenge and embraces change, who is a natural leader and team player, and who is passionate about leading and developing top-quality library services. This is an opportunity to make a real difference and to demonstrate a can-do attitude and this will help you to sustain and develop not only the library space, but also the team and service.
The role may require you to adjust your timetable at times to cover absences of team members, for example, and so would suit someone with the availability and flexibility to accommodate this.
