Hours: Full time

Hollywood Primary School

Pickenham Road

Birmingham

B14 4TG

Telephone Number: 0121 675 7711

Chair of Governors: Mr Graham Burton

Head Teacher: Mr Simon Dix

Hollywood Primary School is a two form-entry Community school for pupils aged 4 - 11 years, which currently has 399 pupils on roll.

Due to the retirement of our long serving head at December 2022, the governing body of Hollywood Primary School are looking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated head teacher.

The governing body of Hollywood Primary School have committed to join The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust.

We are a 2-form entry, community school with a nursery provision.  We also have an Autism Resource Base. The Resource Base opened in October 2014 to support the needs of children with an EHCP and a diagnosis of Autism.

We also have Daisy the Dog! Daisy has proved invaluable as a calming influence for pupils who may have communication difficulties, she’s also on the school gate most mornings to help reluctant pupils ‘get over the line’ and begin their school day.

Hollywood Primary was visited by a team of Ofsted inspectors on the 11 and 12 of June 2019. It attained the status of ‘Good’.

The report is very positive, and it certainly suggests that the school has moved on since the previous report presented to parents in January 2019 which was rated at ‘Requires Improvement’.

The report itself highlighted the key values of Hollywood Primary.

  1. The school is a happy and welcoming community. Relationships are positive, and staff look after pupils well. Pupils trust their teachers and other adults and feel safe. However, some pupils do not understand how to keep themselves safe on the internet.
  2. Leaders work hard to encourage pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, which is promoted well through the curriculum and the school’s values. As a result, pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain.
  3. Pupils behave well in class and around the school. They are courteous, polite and keen to do their best, and enjoy coming to school.

We are looking for someone who can lead the school and its committed staff on our ongoing journey to Outstanding.
The governors, staff, parents and most importantly the children all feel extremely proud of our school - as you will see when you step through our gates, it is a happy place.

The successful candidate will be expected to take up the appointment at the beginning of the Spring Term 2 January 2023.

Informal contact with the school is most welcome, we will host visits on 7 and 9 of September.

Closing Date: 12 September 2022, 9am

Please download an application pack or email: CSURecruitment@birmingham.gov.uk quoting reference ES2287.

Interview dates for successful candidates: week commencing 26 September 2022

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including: an enhanced DBS; Prohibition check; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work.  All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. Which means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.

We are always looking for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach, with a commitment to excellence to help us achieve our vision.  We will support you to develop and thrive in your role, building a pathway for long-term success, with lots of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships.

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
