We are a dynamic Financial Management Team responsible for providing a diverse range of functions to drive the Council to fulfil its transformational journey We deliver the full range of financial management and accounting services to facilitate effective delivery of services to support the people of Coventry and deliver projects which are redefining the infrastructure of the city.

Working flexibly with internal officers and external partners we aim to ensure finance is at the heart of everything that the Council does.

What is the job role?

The Finance Support team is an integral part of how we deliver our statutory financial obligations as well as being the first point of contact for our service managers in executing their financial responsibilities within service areas and delegated budgets.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Deliver Finance Support to service managers and budget holders across the Council’s services.
  • Responsibility for monitoring the housing benefit subsidy claims, Including supporting the quarterly forecast and reporting any anomalies to your Line Manager. You will also support the year end systems reconciliation, to ensure the claim is accurately represented in the local authority’s Statement of Accounts.
  • Support budget holders and business partners within your service area to ensure budget setting processes are carried out effectively, including quarterly forecasting. Any adhoc task required to support the centralised budget setting process.
  • Responsibility for completing all scheduled Final Accounts tasks according to the agreed timetable. You will ensure transactions are carried out in line with internal policies and procedures, as well as liaising with business partners on Final Accounts tasks within your service area.
  • Stakeholder engagement with budget managers, service users and business partners throughout the annual financial cycle.
  • To work with a mindset of continuous improvement, proactively engaging with stakeholders and colleagues to identify areas for review and improvement.

 This post is a 12-month fixed term contract.

Who are we looking for?

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting technician who is self-motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to progress their career as an accountant.

You will have a good knowledge of accounting, an eye for detail and the confidence to provide support to a range of finance and non-finance professionals, while identifying improved ways of working.

You will work collaboratively and flexibly with other colleagues within the team, to provide finance support to the Council within agreed SLAs/deadlines.

We are looking for an individual who is a problem solver and can demonstrate competence in using Microsoft Office, especially Excel and ERP system.

  • Your experience of problem solving, including the skills used to achieve the outcome.
