An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and motivated tree professionals to join our Arboriculture team here at the City of Wolverhampton Council. Despite being a dense urban area, Wolverhampton is a green city with a plentiful coverage of trees with the Council managing approximately 450,000 trees over 274 hectares, with more being planted every year.

To deal with these growing demands, our Arboriculture Team is undergoing an ambitious expansion with the creation of twelve new arboriculture roles to deliver an increased number and frequency of tree inspections on the city's highways, parks, cemeteries, and open land whilst also transitioning to the latest technology to build and develop our services ensuring we deliver the best services possible for our residents.

Arboriculture and Direct Works Manager

Contract Type: Full time permanent
Salary: GR8 (£45,648 - £49,702)

Work Hours: 37 hours week

The role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the management for the Arboriculture and Direct Works team here at Wolverhampton Council. The new Arboriculture and Direct Works Manager will be at the centre of future developments and projects and take a lead on the management of our varied, public facing operation.

You will manage, supervise and co-ordinate the delivery of arboricultural, pest control, schools ground maintenance and graffiti related services across the city, and these services related budgets to drive the strategic development of the service in line with council priorities and legislative developments that may be introduced.

The Arboriculture and Direct Works will lead on the continued expansion, strategic development, and digital transformation of the service, reporting and communicating the progress at a Senior Executive level. Previous experience of managing a digital asset management system, such as ConfirmConnect, is essential for this role.

About you:

 

A confident leader, you will have proven significant experience of managing teams responsible for Arboricultural/Horticultural works and Street Cleansing with the corresponding qualifications to provide the technical expertise required for this role.

A key attribute that we are seeking in the successful applicant is the ability to co-ordinate a methodical and rational approach to a work programme / instructions in order to deliver a professional service, ensuring all works are carried out in a safe and efficient manner. You will have experience of working in a fast-paced environment, with conflicting priorities, demonstrating the ability to be flexible and respond to changing demands

It is critical that the successful applicant can demonstrate the Council’s values and be excellent communicator, as you engage successfully with colleagues, elected members, customers, contractors, senior management, and residents in the management of this service.
