Legal Services – Property Lawyer
Coventry is a lively, multicultural city, which embraces old and new. Around the modern city centre, there are traces of history everywhere – in the old city walls, the timber-framed buildings and the reconstructed medieval Spon Street. But Coventry has always had an eye on the future and is now firmly focused on regenerating and re-inventing itself to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. With major developments and new projects taking place right across the city, Coventry City Council Legal Services team play an essential part in meeting those challenges.
Independently recognised by the Law Society and holding its LEXCEL accreditation, the team offers a professional comprehensive, tailor-made service to address legal issues of every description. We are very proud to have been named Birmingham Law Society’s In-House Team of the Year 2017. We’re currently looking for an experienced commercial property lawyer to join our team to support the Council’s ambitious plans for Coventry.
As a Council with improvement at its heart, we’re committed to making life better for the people who live and work in Coventry. We’re equally concerned with the quality of life enjoyed by our people, so by joining us, you won’t just be helping the community, you’ll be helping yourself too.
Providing professional support to the Commercial Property Management Team in the Council’s Place Directorate, you will be involved in a range of landlord and tenant work, disposals and acquisitions on behalf of the Council. Active management of the Council’s large property portfolio and a mandate to invest in new income-generating property assets creates a variety of interesting and stimulating property work. You’ll provide practical commercial advice on proposed transactions, offer guidance on the impact and interpretation of relevant new legislation and case law, updating working policies and procedures as necessary under the direction of the Place Team Leader.
Key to your success, in working with the Commercial Property Management Team, will be your ability to offer clear and pragmatic advice, high-quality drafting, exercised with excellent business nous. Always customer-focused, you’ll understand the nature of local government in-house legal services and demonstrate a willingness to contribute positively to service development and continuous improvement.
You’ll be an experienced Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with a good working knowledge of commercial property law. It’s a background that will have enabled you to develop a sound understanding of local government and administrative law and an appreciation of the challenges facing local authorities. You’ll be skilled at drafting legal documentation, providing concise and clear advice, and carrying out legal research and analysis. Well-organised and adaptable, you’ll be happy to take on challenges outside of your field of expertise and work closely with more junior members of the team.
