Warwickshire County Council is the largest employer in Warwickshire, and it is responsible for the roads and highways within the county area. You will work within various groups within County Highways Budbrooke Office to gain good experience in the various works activities primarily for Network Management but will include training activities within highway maintenance, including street lighting, highway controls and duties for Warwickshire County Council Highways.

The Role

37.0 Hours per Week

This is a fixed term contract for 2 years from September 2017.

Working with the Network Management Team, you will help to co-ordinate all works on the highway network of Warwickshire, by undertaking general technical tasks and associated duties.

You will help the team to assess and process Permits set out under regulations and conditions from the New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act (TMA), enforced through the WaSP Permit Scheme.

We understand that you may be interested in becoming an apprentice, but need to finish full time education first – if so then that is not a problem, please do still apply as we will be happy to keep this position vacant for the successful candidate to start in August/September (but no later than that), once your exams are out of the way and you've had a summer break! Please ensure you make us aware in your application if you are currently in full time education, e.g. doing GCSE’s, A Levels, or a college course. If you are not currently in full time education, then if you are the successful candidate we will start you as soon you are ready, pending successful completion of pre-employment checks.

Key Requirements

- Minimum of 5 A-C grades at GCSE, with grade C or above in English and Maths.

- Good IT skills with experience in the use of Microsoft Office.

- Willing to undertake training and development and a commitment to studying for the qualification in Construction Technical and Professional; Level 3, Pathway 1: Built Environment Design.

- Ability to travel to both work base location and South and City College, Birmingham.

Apprenticeship Pay Scale from 1 April 2017: Point 1 = £149.85 per week, £4.05 per hour, £7,813.61 per annum – initial salary for all new starters for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship Progression of pay after 12 months are complete as follows: Point 2 = £207.20 per week, £5.60 per hour, £10,804.00 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 19 - 20 Point 3 = £260.85 per week, £7.05 per hour, £13,601.46 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 21 – 24 (Fixed term salary point for higher Apprentices) Point 4 = £277.50 per week, £7.50 per hour, £14,469.64 per annum – completed 12 months and aged 25+

The Training Provider for this apprenticeship is South and City College. All training will likely take place at the work location. Please note: Apprenticeships are NOT open to applicants who already have a degree / HND / HNC or other qualifications at level 4 or above.
