MFL AT NORTON CANES HIGH SCHOOL

We are looking to appoint a hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic teacher of FRENCH who could join our team and offer our students an outstanding teaching and learning experience. It would be a strong advantage if the successful candidate could teach French to GCSE and A level standard.

This is an exciting time for a new teacher to join us. The successful candidate will be working closely alongside the current head of department and we are looking for someone who can help build on the existing strengths within the department and who can help move the department forward. The post has become available due to the retirement of a colleague.

We are a small department with our own suite of classrooms.  Each teacher has their own classroom in which all of their lessons are timetabled.  There is a central store for resources and we have a range of recently replenished textbooks and other resources, both paper based and electronic. Each classroom has its own PC and overhead data projector. ICT facilities are available on a booking system.

The MFL department is highly regarded within the school. Visits abroad and enrichment opportunities are a central component of the department.  Teaching and Learning is good with outstanding features and pupils achieve well in French.

At KS3, the students follow a three-year programme from the Expo Scheme of Work which is central to providing pupils with a solid foundation for GCSE study. (Although the head of department is keen to work with the successful applicant on updating the current KS3 schemes of work).

KS3 assessments align to the scheme of work and take place after each module, allowing teachers to develop appropriate interventions where necessary.

At KS4 French is a popular option subject and contributes to the Progress 8 measure.  Historically results have been strong in the department and have in the past, contributed significantly to the school’s headline 5 A*-C figure.

A level French in is well established in the department and we teach from the AQA specifications in both KS4 and 5.
