Cultural Events Officer

£32,909 - £34,723 per annum

37 hours per week

  • The post holder will work with the Culture and Wellbeing Events service to design and deliver a range of events and community engagement activities in the borough, providing event management for council events, including leading staff and voluntary teams, developing event management plans, contracts, health and safety plans, licences, budgets; the co-ordination and production; marketing and promotion.
  • Producing detailed documentation for events (e.g timelines, suppliers details, health and safety requirements, licencing)
  • Working cross authority with other internal services of the council such as enforcement, highways, community, leisure, parks and open spaces, tourism and economic regeneration in the planning and delivery of events, ensuring good coordination and effective delivery of events.
  • Offering quality assurance, support and guidance to community organisers on the development and safe management of their events and activities e.g local carnivals, activities on open spaces.
  • Actively seeking investment opportunities, develop funding bids and develop partnerships that bring financial and in kind values to the programme.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of events.

  • Demonstrable experience in project/event management in a relevant field of work;
  • Experience of working in the community and with a wide range of community groups would be desirable
  • Experience of working within a festival or events production environment desirable
  • Experience of developing relationships with new and existing contacts;
  • Experience of the monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of composing health and safety paperwork including risk assessments.
  • Experience of managing difficult and conflict situations
  • A thorough understanding of the main issues relating to safe working practices and awareness of responsibilities under T&WC’s Health & Safety at Work Policies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, oral  and writing skills using a range of IT applications
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people including senior managers, external partners, artists, diverse communities and young people
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and collaboratively with a wide range of partners
  • Ability to develop creative approaches to both the delivery of the team’s work and solutions to issues
  • Project Management skills
  • Supervisory skills when supporting contracted artists, casual staff and volunteers
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and prioritise a demanding workload
