Introduction from Ali Layne-Smith, Director of People & Organisation Development

Thank you for your interest in joining the People & Organisation Development directorate here at West Midlands Police (WMP).

I’ve recently joined WMP as I am excited by the unique opportunity of creating and delivering a people strategy that will enable the force to meet its goals for 2020 and beyond. We’ve made a start and there’s much more to do so we are looking for people with a range of specialist skills to augment our existing team of 400.

As an enabling function, our role is to provide support, guidance, development and a challenge to our employees and their leaders, so together we prevent crime, protect the public and help those in need. A focus on the wonderfully diverse West Midlands community we serve is at the heart of what we do and combined with our People Deal commitment to our employees and the Leadership Promise, outlining our expectations of leaders, the foundations are in place for the next stage in our transformation programme.

If you have the passion, drive, skills, experience, resilience, and character required we would be delighted to hear from you.

Ali Layne-Smith

Director of People & Organisation Development

OD Manager- Talent and Progression

  • Do you have a passion for managing talent and progression?
  • Have you developed & led innovative programmes to progress high potential groups of employees?
  • Have you embedded a succession planning and talent identification framework?

As our talent and progression specialist, you will be responsible for identifying and embedding a clear inclusive talent management framework, including supporting our apprentices, graduates, high potentials and specialists. We are looking for innovative ideas when it comes to succession planning and we want you to develop a sustainable approach to support our employees in making horizontal and vertical moves. No day will be the same, as you champion talent management, working with leaders and managers across the Force, delivering workshops and facilitating events.

To join us, you’ll need to be creative, collaborative and driven. With excellent interpersonal skills, you’ll influence senior partners and inspire confidence. You will also have experience of developing successful performance frameworks, along with knowledge of techniques and standard methodologies. Ideally, you will be a member of the CIPD, along with other relevant qualifications.

Here at West Midlands Police, we serve almost 2.8 million people – making us the second largest police force in England. We’re planning to radically overhaul all aspects of the business with WMP2020 – a modernisation plan that’ll change the way the force operates. As part of this, we’re bringing together our services to create a People and Organisation Development Directorate. With expertise, commitment and dedication, you’ll thrive in this senior role and help to realise our ambitions.

Reporting to a newly appointed Head of Development and Performance you will have the opportunity to shape the future as part of a brand new ‘leadership and development team.’

If you are interested in this role, please submit your CV to ss_applicationforms@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk
