Contract for working:  40 weeks (term time working) x 35hrs per week (includes 5 days working to be agreed.

Annual Leave: 24 days (To be taken out of term time)

Actual starting salary: £23,894.00 per annum.

Do you have skills and knowledge to develop a range of educational programmes, build effective links with local schools, colleges and community groups? Do you have experience in public relations, communications and partnerships?

West Midlands Fire Service offers a range of educational programmes delivered to schools, colleges, and community organisations which have been developed for work around key transitional times in life.  These are delivered by our Fire Fighters, Educators, Presenters, Volunteer team, within schools, community settings and at both of our Safeside Education Centres during School Term Time. 

We are looking for a trained experienced teacher with current working practice within the education system to develop, review and enhance our range of programmes in ‘ Making West Midlands Safer, Stronger and Healthier’. 


At Safeside at Eastside and at Handsworth, our two experiential learning centres provide innovative, interactive and enjoyable learning environments, inspiring visitors to think and act safely. 

Both centres are owned and managed by West Midlands Fire Service with strong support from a range of partners.  Children, young people and adults learn key aspects of water, road, home and personal safety through experiential learning programmes.

To be successful in this role it is essential that you have the ability to develop educational programmes for a variety of audiences, and has skills for delivering inspiring training events in a creative and inspiring way to maximise visitor numbers. We are also looking for organisational, interpersonal and administrative skills needed to promote our education work and impact on Making West Midlands Safer. You will also have experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team, management of sessional delivery staff and training, staff, presenters and volunteers.

Some of the key areas for the successful applicant will include:

  • Have Qualified Teacher Status
  • Have English and Maths at Grade C or above
  • Have significant relevant educational experience in schools or youth work (ideally both)
  • Be able to work independently and on own initiative to agreed targets and goals
  • Be a talented, experienced and skilled educator and communicator
  • Be able to set an excellent personal example of best educational practice and evaluation
  • Have experience of collaborative working with a range of schools and partnerships 

In accordance with our Safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check.
