Sandwell is the 12th most deprived Borough in England, with no areas of affluence; learning provision is therefore available across the whole Borough to any resident. The three training centres are situated in areas of greater relative disadvantage: Tipton, West Bromwich/Wednesbury and Smethwick. Community Learning sub-contractors are used to assist in targeting areas of lower take-up, and of specific cultural groups. The curriculum delivered by the service is intended to support wider Council priorities of investing in people, businesses and jobs to help Sandwell residents to get the training and jobs that they need. The curriculum also supports the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership objectives of reducing the number of people with no qualification and supporting those who wish to enter employment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a numeracy subject specialism at level 5 or above as well as a nationally recognised teaching qualification and detailed CPD log
  • Have a proven track record in delivering outstanding teaching to adults in mainstream and family learning settings and meeting targets
  • Have a proven track record over a minimum of three years of raising success rates
  • Have an extensive experience of raising the quality standards of curriculum paperwork including a thorough practical knowledge of RARPA
  • Extensive experience of teaching mixed ability groups as well as knowledge and understanding of current best practice in teaching and learning is essential
  • The ability to motivate and lead other practitioners with little supervision in the subject area
  • A passion for taking the service forward to being the best ACL provider in Sandwell
  • Need to be flexible and able to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis
  • Need to take annual leave outside of term time teaching commitments
