Community Governor
Required as soon as possible.
The Telford Langley School’s School Standards Committee currently has a vacancy for a Community Governor to serve for a period of up to four years.
We are hoping to recruit a dynamic individual who can be part of our journey of continuous improvement. Governors play a key role in the leadership of the school, ensuring that the vision, ethos and strategic direction are implemented and are responsible for holding the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for the performance of the school. Being a governor can be very rewarding and will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a team and gain new skills. Don’t worry if you have no experience, full training and support is available through our trusts Governor Development programme.
The most important duty of any governor is to attend regular meetings and you should be sure that you are committed and available to do this before applying.
What is the time commitment?
- 6 meetings a year, each lasting approximately 2 hours, there is an expectation to have read’ documents sent in advance for the meeting Monitoring Visits in school 2-3 times per year Governor professional development which includes, but not exclusive to, annual online Governor training to include Safeguarding, Prevent and GDPR and a governor training event 1 x ½ day in the year Invitations to school events on an ad-hoc non-compulsory basis
In addition to attending SSC Meetings, Governors are occasionally asked to participate in disciplinary and complaints panels as well as shortlisting and interviewing new staff.
Joining the SSC as a Community Governor offers you the opportunity to make a real contribution to the life and work of young people in the local community. As this is a Community Governor role, it is open to all individuals from the wider community, grandparents, relatives and members of the general public.
Preferred skills (while not essential): a general understanding of educational standards in a school setting, ability to challenge constructively and help find solutions and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

We expect all staff to share this commitment and to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks and a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the standards which flows from Community Academies Trust vision and values. All references will be taken up prior to interview.
The role is covered by part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
