Thomas Barnes Primary School is a small school located in the village of Hopwas, adjacent to Tamworth, Staffordshire. We have a dedicated group of staff and governors who work hard to provide the best education possible for our 105 pupils. We are also lucky to have a friendly and helpful group of parents who appreciate everything we do.
Working at a small school is very rewarding; the staff work really closely together and get on well. It can also be challenging at times because there are simply not very many of us! As a result, we are looking for someone who is helpful, friendly and flexible. The successful candidate will be someone who clearly can use initiative and turn their ambition into action.
In the morning, the successful candidate will be a TA. He or she will work across the primary age range but will initially be based in the EYFS. Occasionally, they may be asked to cover a class. In the afternoon, the successful candidate will be our new HLTA. They will cover each teacher's release time from Reception to Year 5/6, so will need an effective classroom management and teaching style. An understanding of how to meet the needs of children with dyslexia and autism would also be desirable.
We also would like someone who is willing to get involved in the wider life of the school, eg. fundraising events, parents' evenings, sporting tournaments and musical performances.

Visits to the school to meet the headteacher, children and staff are strongly recommended, we would love to meet you! To arrange one, please contact Ms S Adams (Office Manager) at office@thomasbarnes.staffs.sch.uk.
Please note, we are not willing to split the jobs for two separate people.
Find all the necessary documents attached. When completing your application form, remember to tell us about all your exciting skills and talents...sell yourself!
Closing date for applications: 12pm Friday 1st December 2023
Interviews will be held week commencing: Monday 4th December 2023
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to necessary pre-employment checks, including: an enhanced DBS; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.
Rehabilitation of offenders: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. Which means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.
An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.
