CASUAL LEARNING & SUPPORT ASSISTANT

£12.96 – 13.41 PER HOUR DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE

Chadsgrove School is a day special school for pupils whose special educational needs arise from their physical disabilities.  In addition a significant number of pupils have profound and multiple learning difficulties, whilst others have sensory impairments and/or communication difficulties.

At present there are 142 pupils on role within the 2-19 age range and there are approximately 45 Teaching Assistants working throughout the school.  The roles are varied but consist of supporting teaching activities in the classroom and swimming pool and assisting with the changing and personal care requirements of some of the children.  The work can often involve lifting pupils and candidates need to be physically fit and capable of working co-operatively within a multi-disciplinary team.  It is essential that candidates are adaptable with a good sense of humour and have an ability to empathise and work positively with the pupils’ individual needs.

Previous experience of working with children with physical disabilities would be an advantage but it is not essential, as training will be given.

The post will involve covering staff absences and working with other teaching assistants.  Some of the work will concentrate on supporting individual children in their classes to enable them to access the school curriculum fully.   The post may also involve covering swim sessions i.e. helping to change the children for their swimming lesson.  Last minute availability is essential.
