Telford & Wrekin Emergency Duty Team responds to social work emergencies which need addressing outside normal office hour when daytime offices are closed managing referrals that cannot wait until the next working day. Work is generated across all areas of social work providing an emergency “out of hours” for all residents across the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
We are a forward thinking team and provide opportunities for flexible and mobile working; all Social Workers have access to yoga and equipment which mean that where appropriate you are able to work mobile.
We have excellent links with other regional EDT’s, access to bespoke training. You will receive regular supervision and will have the opportunity to develop areas of practice and links with our stakeholders to ensure a multi-agency approach to the work we complete.

The successful candidate will be expected to work out of hours on a 5 week rota bases covering 5 shifts (PT) over 3 weeks, followed by 2 weeks off. You are expected to be available for duty according to the service rota which covers evenings, weekends & public holidays for an average of 14 hours per week. Whilst we work extremely hard when on duty, the rota also provides a lot of flexibility in terms of time off in day time hours which should be particularly attractive to candidates with adult/child care commitments or other work commitments.
Local Pay Point 38 – 41,Maximum Annual FT Salary is £43,536 15% out of hours enhancement, 2 increments for Approved Mental Health Professional AMHP status plus car allowance and mileage.
The post holders will ensure that an efficient and effective Service is provided to all users, carers and agencies that require an emergency response outside of normal working hours. The post holder will need to demonstrate their ability to lone work, take responsibility for any situation that arises out of hours and to work along side professionals from other agencies covering a out of hours emergency service.
The persons we are looking to appoint will be experienced Social Workers with a high level of understanding, knowledge and experience; with respect to safeguarding both vulnerable children and adults, including AMHP and emergency housing work. The post holder would need to demonstrate effective care management skills, have the confidence to manage risk and the ability to work in an often pressured environment.
As a duty EDT worker, your primary responsibility will be to manage a specific shift safely and appropriately. Having the skills to prioritise and delegate work in a timely manner appropriate to need, is an essential part of the role.
The Senior Social Worker will have access to a manager on call for consultation and support.
The EDT workers are experienced Social Workers with high level of understanding, knowledge and experience; with respect to safeguarding both vulnerable children and adults. You will need to be an AMHP.
The post holders would need to demonstrate effective time management skills, have the confidence to manage risk and the ability to work in an often pressured environment. As EDT worker, your primary responsibility will be to manage a specific shift safely and appropriately.
Having the skills to prioritise and delegate work in a timely manner appropriate to need, is a key requirement
The successful applicant would need to be experienced in childcare/Adult social care. You will be responsible for undertaking safeguarding home visits and emergency social care assessments, throughout Telford & Wrekin.
Hold a HCPC recognised Social Work qualification you will also have significant post qualifying experience together with knowledge of key legislations relating to safeguarding Children or Adults, Mental Health and Housing.
Ideally you will have experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds, enjoy working on your own initiative, be able to prioritise and make decisions.
Experience of risk assessment and care planning, and the implementation of emergency interventions to improve outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and their families, including those subject to a care / protection plans,
Ability to work alone and with a range of agencies in responding to emergency situations within a partnership/holistic approach to problem solving
The post holder will be responsible for professional assessment and decision making in relation to risk management strategies for vulnerable adults, children, their families /carers balancing a number of key considerations autonomously, in the majority of cases and where appropriate consulting with the Team manager EDT or seek resource approval from the Service Delivery Manager on rota .
