Job Details

Are you looking for a rewarding role which helps ensure Warwickshire is a safer place? Have some experience in policy development and governance? Good at detail and passionate about public service?

We’re looking for an ambitious and motivated individual with scrutiny, research, strategic planning and performance management experience.

The Assurance and Scrutiny Officer works as part a small but successful team which assists Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Seccombe, as he delivers his Police and Crime Plan for the county.

You will be responsible for supporting the Commissioner as he holds Warwickshire Police to account, scrutinising force activity and performance and producing reports and briefings to aid decision making.  This will include analysing performance information, understanding trends and providing a narrative to develop the Commissioner’s understanding of key issues, while providing advice on the setting of goals and targets.

You will also play a key role in communicating the work of the Commissioner to the public, through the production of the Police and Crime Plan, Annual Report, strategic delivery plans and other statutory documents.

Assisting the Commissioner in his role in the police complaints process as laid out in legislation, you will carry out Complaints Reviews, liaising with the force and complainants to ensure completion, address issues and ensuring a high-standard of customer service throughout.

You’ll demonstrate good knowledge of public sector organisations and the delivery of statutory functions and the legislation that sits behind them, as well as having strong experience of providing scrutiny and challenge to the activities of others with a view to improving the services offered.

We are the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire, Philip Seccombe.

Our office includes a diverse mix of roles covering all aspects of policing, criminal justice and community engagement.  Based in Warwick but working county-wide, we are a busy but friendly team who support the Commissioner to fulfil his duties and deliver the Police and Crime Plan for Warwickshire.

Police and crime commissioners (PCCs) are elected by the public to give them a voice at the highest level and the ability to ensure their police are accountable.  Their role is to ensure the policing needs of their communities are met as effectively as possible, bringing communities closer to the police, building confidence in the system and restoring trust.

Key aspects include:

  • holding the chief constable to account for the delivery of the force
  • setting and updating a police and crime plan
  • setting the force budget and precept
  • regularly engaging with the public and communities
  • appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the chief constable.
