Our mission is to secure a deeply good academic, social and civic education for every child and young person living in Birmingham.

BEP was established in 2013 to unite the whole family of Birmingham schools, to harness our collective strengths and to support partnership working.

The Birmingham Education Partnership represents the school-led system in the face of shrinking local government. Recognising that it takes a whole city to raise a child and that schools need to be rooted in locality, BEP champions working with all those who support and develop Birmingham’s young people.

BEP is both a charity and a company (not for profit) that is focussed on school improvement in its broadest sense. Our partnership works through a variety of discrete channels. These include contractual or commissioned work, membership services and traded activities.

Our key activities include knowing the needs and strengths of all Birmingham schools, supporting those that are at risk, or those already judged to be less than good. We work through training, brokering and signposting, especially with Birmingham’s teaching schools in systematic school improvement. BEP also champions peer review and the sharing of good practice. We support the building of effective collaboratives, working for coherence in a hitherto random world of MAT development.

Our Aim

Birmingham Education Partnership is inspired to touch the life of every child and young person living within our city. From the outset our aim has been to:

  • Unite and hold together the whole family of Birmingham schools in the face of an increasingly atomised system around a weakening centre
  • Secure a deeply good education for every child in a Birmingham School, maintained or academy, focusing on the civic and the social as well as the academic
  • Provide a united voice for Birmingham schools and to champion partnership working with business and other large parts of the public sector to strengthen partnership working
  • No school being left isolated and the city council knowing all its schools well
  • Formal support and intervention with schools deemed to be less than good or at risk of requiring improvement or worse.
  • Raising achievement/attainment and securing good Ofsted outcomes in all Birmingham Schools.
