Are you:

  • Able to work collaboratively with teaching staff to enable the development and educations of students, including those with special educational, physical and emotional needs?
  • Able to work with students to help support them in and out of lessons and integrate them into the Academy and to support meetings with parents where necessary?

Do you:

  • Have previous experience in working in a classroom or 1:1?
  • Have experience of procedures relating to child protection and safeguarding?
  • Have a willingness to undergo further development and training?
  • Have experience of working one to one with student?

KEY PURPOSE

  • Primary function will be to support students on a 1:1 basis through years 7-11. Liaising with Teachers, parents and external bodies to ensure resources are in place to support the student in lessons.
  • To work collaboratively with the teacher and work with responsibility for the development and education of students, including those with special educational, physical and emotional needs, by utilising detailed knowledge and specialist skills in specialist discipline being fully involved in all stages of the planning cycle.
  • To work with other students (as directed) to help support them in and out of lessons, to integrate in the Academy.
  • To support meetings with parents.
  • To work in school or at home to support a student to access mainstream provision.
  • To be the advocate for the student from home and school for their learning and wellbeing.

The appointee will be line managed by the SENCO.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Outline of responsibilities and tasks

  • To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom.  This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the management/preparation of resources.
  • To support the classroom teacher with their responsibility for the development and education of children, including those with special physical, emotional and educational needs, by utilising detailed knowledge and specialist skills.

Job responsibilities and tasks may include the following under the direction and control of the teacher:

Support for students

  • Monitor the student’s health and wellbeing to decide if they can access the classroom for learning or if they need small room provision. 
  • To support using AV1 Robot to access learning, if needed.
  • Use specialist (curricular/learning/behavioural management) skills/training/experience to support students in class or through intervention programmes.
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom.
  • Support students consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement.

Support for the teacher

  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment.
  • Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives.
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested.
  • Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents with, or as directed.
  • Administer and assess routine tests and invigilate exams/tests.
  • Provide general clerical/admin support, for example administer coursework and produce worksheets for agreed activities.

Support for the curriculum

  • Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to student responses/needs.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence in its use.
  • Help students to access learning activities through specialist support.
  • Determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources.

Support for the school

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of students.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings, training and other learning activities as required.
  • Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.
  • Provide appropriate guidance and supervision and assist in the training and development of staff as appropriate.
  • Undertake planned supervision of students’ out of school hours learning activities.
  • Supervise students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.

Other Duties

  • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.
  • To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.
  • Administer First Aid

39 weeks (TTO + 5 days).  22 hours/week,  Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:20pm
