Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and effective Employability and Development Coach to join our team at Open Lens Media. Primarily based in Walsall, you will also work across the West Midlands region to deliver employability support through our Pathways Employability Programme aimed at young people aged 16-24 and young adults aged 25-35.

The Development and Employability Coach will play a key role in supporting individuals in gaining essential skills, confidence, and opportunities to enter and thrive in the employment market. Please note that travel is essential in this role, and candidates should be willing to travel or have their own transportation.

 

Responsibilities

Programme Delivery:

  • Deliver high-quality employability support, workshops, and coaching sessions tailored to the needs of our target beneficiary group. Cover topics such as CV writing, job searching, interview skills, career planning, and workplace readiness.

Individual Coaching and Support:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and support to young participants, helping them identify and overcome barriers to employment. Conduct initial assessments and develop personalised action plans to address individual needs and goals.

Skills Development:

  • Facilitate workshops and activities focused on developing essential employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. Implement innovative and experiential learning methods to enhance participant engagement and learning outcomes.

Employer Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers, industry partners, and employment agencies to identify job opportunities and employer needs. Coordinate work placements, internships, and apprenticeships for programme participants.

Community Outreach:

  • Conduct outreach activities to engage with young people and promote the employability support offered by the social enterprise. Collaborate with schools, colleges, community organisations, and local authorities to reach and support a diverse range of young individuals.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Collect data and feedback from programme participants to track progress and measure the impact of employability interventions. Use evaluation findings to continuously improve programme delivery and outcomes.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and outcomes. Prepare regular reports and updates for internal stakeholders and funders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Media, Social Sciences, Youth Development, Human Resources, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in coaching, career counselling, or employability support are advantageous.

Experience

  • Proven experience in employability coaching, career counselling, or related roles, preferably working with young people aged 16-35. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by young individuals in entering the job market.

Employability Skills Development

  • Knowledge of employability skills development, job search strategies, and labour market trends. Experience in facilitating workshops and activities focused on developing essential employability skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving.

Coaching and Support

  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with young participants. Experience providing one-on-one coaching and support to individuals, including conducting initial assessments and developing personalised action plans.

Employer Engagement

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with local employers, industry partners, and employment agencies. Experience coordinating work placements, internships, and apprenticeships for programme participants.

Community Outreach

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct outreach activities and engage with young people from diverse backgrounds. Experience collaborating with schools, colleges, community organisations, and local authorities to reach and support young individuals.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes to assess programme impact and measure outcomes. Ability to collect data and feedback from participants, analyse results, and use findings to improve programme delivery.

Communication skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information effectively to diverse audiences. Strong presentation skills and the ability to deliver engaging workshops and presentations.

Organisational skills

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Flexibility and Adaptability

  • Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust coaching approaches to meet the needs of different participants. Willingness to travel across the West Midlands region and work outside of regular office hours as needed.
