Full time permanent, secondments will be considered

Location: Office of the Police and Crime Commissioners in West Midlands

This is a politically restricted post


We are seeking an experienced Principal Auditor to join our team, which is responsible for providing Internal Audit Services across the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and West Midlands Police. The post holder will require a minimum qualification as a Chartered Internal Auditor with the Institute of Internal Auditors; or qualified CCAB Accountant.




You will conduct and lead on key risk-based audits of a complex nature and make recommendations to management to address any weaknesses in the risk, governance and control frameworks.


You will supervise Auditors in the conduct of audit assignments maximising their effectiveness to deliver quality audit outputs and deputise for the Head of Internal Audit. 

You will need experience leading audits and undertaking strategic reviews within a complex public sector organisation. You will need to be able to demonstrate strong risk assessment and problem-solving skills.


The position involves undertaking a wide range of audits across different services and operational policing areas and includes scoping, designing risk-based audit programmes, testing, reporting and discussing findings with senior management. Therefore, you will need to have excellent analytical, written and communication skills with the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the Office and the Police and Crime Commissioner and West Midlands Police.
