This advert is open to both internal and external applicants.

We have a number of posts available.

It is an exciting time for Stoke-on-Trent’s emergency duty team (EDT) which has progressed through transition to a children’s only EDT

The team provides quality services to children and families outside of normal working hours as well as building and maintaining collaborative working with our partner agencies and colleagues across the directorate working around a 9 week rota.

The team is a vital part of Stoke on Trent children’s services, where we provide support to the most vulnerable cohort of children and families and as such, we need practitioners who can work restoratively and work with families to help them to find their own solutions and provide safeguarding responses where required.

This is a unique opportunity for a practitioner with substantial post qualifying experience to join a new team and be a fundamental part of shaping our EDT and its future. We require practitioners who are enthusiastic, passionate, innovative and embrace change to join us on our change journey.  Our vision is to make sure that we provide the right services to children and families at the right time, and we can achieve this by continuously striving for improvement and welcoming a learning and development culture, which you will be integral in achieving.

The Children’s advice & duty service (ChAD) responds to concerns through conversations, which is an evidence-based approach we would want to develop further within EDT and adopt all of the positive learning we have gained from this journey and continue to develop on areas of improvement.

This is a real opportunity for you to develop in your role as a social worker and progress further with mentoring and coaching skills, whereby you will support our sessional workers and their own development and be involved in developing and implementing new processes.

We need experienced and resilient social workers to join the team, who can both work collaboratively with other services and take personal responsibility for their work and operate on their own initiative, who actively relishes taking on new challenges and broadening your skills.

Please note - 20% enhancement will be reviewed periodically

To be considered for a position you must have a degree in Social Work or equivalent, be registered with Social Work England and be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.

For these roles you must

  • Be a qualified Social Worker
  • You will have sound knowledge of relevant childcare legislation, including a clear understanding of ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’.
  •  An ability to build effective relationships with children, young people, and families.
  • ability to work flexibly around work commitments

Amongst the benefits we offer are:

  • Up to 40 days holiday (including 8 days bank holidays)
  • Option to buy extra annual leave
  • Relocation allowance to £8,000 subject to policy
  • High quality reflective supervision
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Access to staff equality and diversity networks

We really look forward to receiving your application

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment.  This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
