The Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board are seeking to recruit an Independent Chair to support the work of the board in the next phase of its development providing independent leadership and strategic vision. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work with and further enhance the already strong partnership arrangements already in place in Sandwell, supporting the board to fulfil its statutory role and function and to meet its identified strategic priorities.

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic, committed and experienced individual to take on this role driving forward the safeguarding agenda in Sandwell and working with regional and national partners to support the safeguarding agenda.  You should be able to demonstrate strategic leaderships skills, the ability to manage in large public, private or voluntary sector organisations and experience of chairing complex multi-agency meetings.  The role requires sound knowledge and understanding of the legislation and guidance relating to safeguarding adults at risk of abuse and neglect ensuring Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board meets its statutory obligations and functions as detailed in the Care Act 2014.

The ability to work collaboratively and to promote a culture of learning and development whilst being able to constructively challenge partners is an essential part of the role. You will be working to ensure that the voices of adults with care and support needs, their families and advocates are heard and recognised as part of the safeguarding process as well as promoting effective engagement.

You must have relevant professional experience in health, social care or criminal justice system. The Independent Chair will represent and promote the image of Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board; therefore, you must be an effective communicator as on occasions contact with members of the public and the media will be required.

Hours/Duration

It is anticipated that this role will require you to undertake on average 2 – 3 days per month, up to a maximum of 36 days.  There would need to be a degree of flexibility.  The specific commitment required can be agreed as part of the appointment process and is open to negotiation. Pay rates to be agreed.

The appointment will be for 3 years, subject to review at 6 months and annual appraisals.

Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board have adopted a hybrid business model with SAB meetings being held either face to face or using Teams virtual platform.

Please note that the Independent Chair will perform Office Holder duties and IR35 rules apply to this appointment. Payments will be made through the payroll system, and tax and NI deductions will be made accordingly, at source via PAYE in line with current HMRC guidelines.
