Job Details

Job Title:               Cook

Responsible to:      Dementia Care Co-ordinator       

Job Purpose:          To prepare high-quality, nutritious meals for the clients and staff at Birmingham Irish Association, ensuring a safe and clean kitchen environment.

Hours of Work:       Monday to Friday 9.30am to 2.30pm

Location:              City Wide

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare, and cook well-balanced and appetising meals for clients and staff, taking into consideration any dietary restrictions or special requirements. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen, including proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices. Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of food and kitchen supplies, placing orders as needed and keeping track of inventory. Assist in menu planning, cost control, and budget management in liaison with the Business and Finance manager. Address any concerns or issues related to the kitchen promptly Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and other relevant gatherings as required. Comply with Birmingham Irish Associations’ policies, procedures and practices

Good level of written and oral communication skills

Strong organisational skills

Good level of planning and decision-making skills

Ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner

Proven cooking experience with the ability to prepare a variety of dishes

 

Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices

 

Must have a driving licence and a car to use for work

 

Experience/Knowledge

Experience working in a kitchen or similar environment

Knowledge of diverse cuisines, with a preference for familiarity with Irish cuisine

Personal effectiveness

Confident

Ability to take initiative

Work under pressure

Organised with excellent time management skills

Flexibility in working hours

Excellent hygiene practices and cleanliness
