Temporary contract

Set in the beautiful county of Staffordshire, Tamworth is a vibrant town with rich heritage.  Located in the centre of Britain, with a growing population of over 77,000 people, Tamworth is a borough with much to be proud of.  Our transport links, unique shopping experience, developing town centre, green spaces, leisure offer, including our cultural and wide-ranging outdoor events programme, as well as our heritage buildings, all help make it a great place to live, work, study, and visit.

In addition to all that Tamworth already has to offer, exciting times are ahead as we embark on a period of significant transformation.  Multi-million-pound projects, such as the Future High Street Fund development will help to bring about lasting change and improvements in the future.  This will assist with our mission to restore Tamworth town centre as the beating heart of the community, a place that people want to visit, rather than a place they have to visit.
Working for Tamworth Borough Council is more than just a job, it’s about making life better for the people who live and work in the Borough. We recognise that everybody who works at Tamworth Borough Council is key to successfully delivering its aims and objectives.  We can’t do this without skilled and ambitious workforce working in a positive environment empowered to do their best.

We are looking for an experienced duty manager to join our talented and multi-skilled front of house team. You will be hands on, working alongside two other duty managers, technical, and food and beverage teams to deliver exceptional customer service throughout our flagship venue, Assembly Rooms, and at various outdoor events.

The Assembly Rooms in Tamworth underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment to totally transform the 130-year-old building, resulting in a venue that has gone from strength to strength and establishing itself as a major entertainment venue in the local area and the regional touring circuit. The refurbishment gave Tamworth a new modern theatre as well as a new kitchen with state-of-the-art equipment, café and event space for community/corporate hire.

Directly reporting to the Theatre Operations Officer, this role will help lead on the smooth and efficient running of all venue operations; and leading a front of house team. You will work rostered shifts alongside technical, catering, and event teams to ensure a successful roll out of live shows, cinema screenings, conference meetings, events and private hires. On a daily basis you will line manage casual stewards, ushers and bar staff.

The Assembly Rooms comprises of an auditorium, the Claymore Lounge café, Saxon Suite, Green Room and Public Realm space, and on your shift, you will take responsibility to ensure all spaces work effectively and display a standard of professionalism.

Although based at the Assembly Rooms, these roles will require you to help with outdoor events such as our annual fireworks display, drive in cinema, and arts events. Shifts could take place in the town’s Castle, Town Hall, or Castle Grounds.

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, be adaptable daily and be comfortable working in a busy, fast paced customer facing role. You will need to be a team player, who is comfortable making decisions and have previous team management experience. You will need to demonstrate experience in working front of house and managing a team in either a theatre, leisure or hospitality -based venue.

So, if you are ready for a challenge, love working with people, and can help create exciting events, then this is the role for you. No two days are the same and the role offers the opportunity to work in the multi-million pound refurbished Tamworth Assembly Rooms, the towns historic Castle, and the Gold Britain in Bloom winning Castle Grounds.

We have an extensive benefits package including flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and payment of professional fees (where applicable), for further details please refer to the application information document on our website.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work in the UK check, medical clearance and basic DBS check.
