When you join the Electoral Services team at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, you can expect to work alongside a team of likeminded professionals who are committed to providing the highest standards, ensuring that it complies with its statutory responsibilities and delivers democratic processes that are efficient, transparent and accountable to its residents.

As the Electoral Services Manager you will be responsible for the management of the elections team and its processes. We use the Xpress electoral management system and have elections in most years, including local (ward and parish), national, Police and Crime Commissioner and Combined Authority Mayoral elections and referendums.

You will lead the Council’s registration function, including the maintenance of the electoral register, seeking to maximise registration and modernise service delivery through the exploitation of technology.

Already possessing a relevant qualification and significant experience of working within an electoral environment, you will also be able to bring your expertise and knowledge of the law, practice and procedures relating to electoral registration and the conduct of Local, Parliamentary and Referenda elections.

You will have proven experience and skills to manage and develop a motivated team and as an excellent communicator, you will be able to engage with and build on relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including the public, Councillors, candidates, election agents and officers within the council. Well organized and resilient, you will be able to work under pressure, managing competing demands and deadlines.

Working and living in an area like Solihull is something special. Voted as one of the best places to live in the UK, our Midlands location means we are well equipped to access all parts of the country, with great transport links and easy access to beautiful countryside, cultural treats such as Stratford-upon-avon and Warwick as well as the diverse city of Birmingham. Working for Solihull means that we can offer employees a great working environment, together with a range of flexible working options, attractive staff discounts and a career average pension scheme.

Please note that this post is politically restricted and during election periods you will be expected to work additional hours which will include evenings and weekends.
