Are you looking for a challenge? Would you like to make a difference every day? Do you want a role that's more varied than 9-5 and feel able to rise to the challenge day or night? If so, we have an amazing opportunity for you to join us as a wholetime firefighter.
Some key things you need to know are:
• You need to be 18 years or over as of 17th January 2018;
• You need to have a minimum of English and Maths GCSEs grade A*-C (or equivalent);
• You may regularly drive vehicles - so must have a full and current UK driving licence;
• You will need to be eligible to work in the UK without restrictions;
• This is a physical role so you need to have a good level of fitness and health – which you'll need to maintain throughout your career with us.
The work you'll do will be varied and interesting – it's not just about responding to emergency calls although of course that's a key part. Being prepared at all times is crucial so you'll take part in regular training and emergency planning and response activities. You'll also use and maintain a range of equipment and machinery, keep accurate records as well as a range of other duties.
Community safety plays a large part of a firefighter's day-to-day work and you'll spend a lot of time out in the community, talking to people of various ages and from different backgrounds about fire prevention, road safety and other safety messages.
It's really important that you have a flexible approach and attitude to your work. You must be willing to work shifts, including weekends, unsocial hours, variable working patterns and be prepared to do occasional short-term detachments at other fire stations. The emergency response nature of our work involves working on-call where you may be needed day or night to deal with an emergency.
In return we offer a great benefits package, including a good salary and allowances, generous annual leave entitlement and occupational pension scheme.
When you start you'll undertake a comprehensive training programme which is just the beginning of your career of lifelong learning - there will be lots of great opportunities to learn and develop new skills.
You'll be joining a great team, who do truly worthwhile work – could you be the next addition?
