Join our team here at WMCA as the new Mayor, Richard Parker, leads us into an exciting future for the region! We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Correspondence Assistant to support the Mayoral Team in managing a variety of correspondence channels.
What will you be doing?
  • Draft responses to a wide range of policy issues on behalf of the Mayoral Team.
  • Flag emerging local issues to ensure timely attention.
  • Keep the Mayoral Director briefed on correspondence trends and sensitive communications from key stakeholders.
  • Update stock responses with the latest WMCA policy positions.
  • Oversee the West Midlands Mayoral correspondence process operated by the WMCA Customer Services Team.
  • Advise the Mayoral Director on improving the correspondence process.
  • Collaborate with the WMCA Customer Services team for a coordinated approach to correspondence.
  • Devise and produce proactive correspondence updates for individuals who have previously written on a topic.
  • Support the Mayoral Director by ensuring briefing materials are available and queries are effectively managed.
  • Work in line with best practices and WMCA employment policies.
  • Comply with all employment legislation and observe health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure cost-effective job activities that deliver value for money.
  • Work as a team, fully focusing on the Mayor's remit and agenda.
  • Manage correspondence efficiently and to a high standard.
About you.
  • Strong knowledge of the geography, culture, and issues in the West Midlands.
  • Excellent writing skills, with experience in managing a correspondence function being desirable. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with the WMCA and local authority teams and officers. 
  • Ability to translate policy and delivery activities into clear and empathetic correspondence for a diverse audience.
  • Professionalism, trust, and honesty, with the ability to retain the trust of the Mayor and the Mayoral team. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle enquiries from multiple sources and work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Salary and benefits.We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.
Location and working pattern.The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. Hybrid working is not available for this role, and it is expected that you can commit to being in the office full time.
