Welfare Rights Officer               

£27,394 to LPP 27 £31,288 (37 hours pro-rata)

18.5 hours per week

Fixed Term Contract for Five Months

We are seeking to appoint a person to the post of Welfare Rights Officer to work part-time within our Specialist Support Team. This team provides high quality training, information and advice to local groups and organisations on benefits and welfare reform measures designed to enable them to assist people living within Wolverhampton establish their benefit rights.


The post holder will:

  • work in partnership with the Council’s Revenues and Benefits and other organisations and be responsible for promoting information on the Benefit Cap in Wolverhampton and addressing the impact it has on local residents
  • contact and work directly with those affected by the Benefit Cap examining exemption rights and other options for reliving the impact of the Benefit Cap 
  • work with the Council’s Revenues and Benefits to compile information and present claims for Discretionary Housing Payments 
  • be expected to undertake appeals work, in particular, in the areas of child Disability Living Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance.

You must be committed to the rights of benefit claimants. You must have experience of providing benefits advice, assisting with benefit claims and disputes. You must have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You must have the ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and in a busy office environment.
