Job Details

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Assistant Head of Year, who is able to establish a strong rapport with young people and be rigorous in maintaining our ethos.

The role of Assistant Head of Year is to guide and support pupils’ wellbeing and academic achievement at St Michael’s Church of England High School, ensuring students achieve to the best of their ability and are able to flourish and live life to the fullest.

This is a non-teaching role and the successful candidate will work within our very experienced and supportive teaching and non-teaching Pastoral team. The main responsibilities will include the management of behaviour, welfare, attendance and academic achievement interventions for a specific group of students. The post holder will work closely with students, staff, parents and agencies to remove barriers to learning and progress and will support a Head of Year to deliver the highest standards of student behaviour and attendance.

St Michael's is an excellent school because of the transformational impact it has on pupils, families, staff and an extended community (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools: December 2019).

St Michael's is an oversubscribed, good school: "Pupils are proud to attend this school and rightly so. Leaders’ high expectations, together with the school’s Christian ethos, have created a culture of mutual respect. Staff work hard to ensure that pupils feel safe and are successful in all aspects of school life. Pupils appreciate the time and effort they are given'. (Ofsted: January 2023)

We will offer you:

  • A positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors
  • Enthusiastic students who are willing to learn and behave well in and around school
  • A professional and hardworking support team of staff with the capacity and commitment to raise student achievement even further.

St Michael's Church of England High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and all posts are subject to an enhanced DBS clearance and barring check.

Please note that Assistant Head of Year works 37 hours per week (term-time only + 5 training days) and the actual salary paid for this post will therefore be at Band D x 0.7770, being the pro-rata amount for hours/weeks worked.

Application form and further details are available from the school website http://www.st-michaels.sandwell.sch.uk/ . Completed application forms should be returned to the Headteacher Headteacher@st-michaels.sandwell.sch.uk  at the school.
