Job Details

The Grounds and Estate Maintenance team, based at Taylors Lane, Oldbury, provides a broad range of horticultural services to locations across the Borough of Sandwell.

Tasks include grass cutting, weed management, bed and shrub maintenance, as well as sports field preparation and maintenance.

We are seeking to recruit a Weed Control Technician to undertake the control of weeds within and around the Borough of Sandwell, including strimming/cutting, ripping, scraping, etc., and the application of herbicides via handheld applicator.

You must:

  • Have a full UK driving licence up to 3.5 tonnes. You must have the ability to drive a manual, pickup style vehicle. Successful candidates will be required to pass a driving assessment.
  • 3 years’ experience undertaking herbicide applications City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides (formerly PA1)
  • Experience using a variety of horticultural tools and equipment.
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand-Held Equipment (formerly PA6)
  • Commitment to undertake and achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides Using Self Propelled, Mounted, Trailed Horizontal Boom Sprayers (formerly PA2) if required for future service needs.
  • Commitment to undertake and achieve HGV training if service needs require it.
