Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)

Part Time, Fixed Term Contract –

25 hours per week from September 2024

Working Monday to Friday during Term Time + inset days. This position is temporary in the first instance, until July 2025

Salary – £13,494*

Full time, whole year equivalent- £23,114*

*April 2024 NJC pay award has not yet been agreed or implemented but will be backdated

Local Government Pension Scheme

This position benefits from membership of the Local Governor Pension Scheme.

 Staffordshire County Council also make a generous employer contribution (currently 28.6%) to this for scheme members.

Hugo Meynell Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Assistant to provide one to one support to a child within our Early Years Foundation Stage.

The person appointed will work with the child to:

  • Develop interaction skills so the child can imitate play actions and take turns.
  • Develop non-verbal communication skills so the child can make requests, show a preference through reaching and pointing and expressing wants and needs.
  • Develop the child’s receptive language skills so they can engage with some classroom routines, understand simple instructions involving a choice, and follow directions containing two key words.
  • Develop listening and attention skills on a one to one and a small group basis to allow the child to complete, and transition between, adult directed activities.
  • Develop literacy skills so the child can imitate sounds, words and phrases and join in with familiar rhymes and songs.
  • Develop numeracy skills so the child can use early maths concepts including matching, categorising, and counting.
  • Develop mark making skills so the child can use a range of resources and materials to further develop their recording and handwriting skills.
  • Assist children in matters of personal needs and their additional needs including first aid and welfare matters
  • Follow guidance from the Speech and Language Therapist and Autism Inclusion Team.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
