Assistant Youth Worker
12 month fixed term placement contract (during sandwich year from University) part time (26 hours per week) or full time (37 hours per week) £200 per week.
OR 12 month fixed term casual contract (working up to 10 hours per week) £9.62 per hour
We are looking for an Assistant Youth Worker to assist in the effective delivery of the Wychavon Youth Bus. This is a great opportunity for students, post graduates or those seeking to gain valuable skills delivering positive activities with young people. The posts will involve facilitating activities for children and young people aged 8 -17 years in rural locations on the Youth Bus.
As part of the Community Development Team the position will include the promotion and marketing of the Youth Bus and developing the project to meet the needs of young people in the area.
This is a busy role in an innovative service area and we are one of few Youth Bus projects in the country. Our aim is to meet the needs of young people in our district and give them something to look forward to.
We are looking for someone who enjoys helping others, enjoys working with children and young adults; and someone who can bring new ideas to the Youth Bus.
This position will be a great experience towards supporting a degree or gathering useful work experience in a community setting.
The role can be carried out on casual basis up to ten hours per week or is available as a student placement post for both full time sandwich course placements (37 hours) or on a part time basis (up to 26 hours). Please specify within your application which contract you are applying for.
Applicants must be flexible to work evenings and some weekends, have their own means of transport to travel around the district and will ideally be studying a related UK-based further or higher education course.
Minimum of 1 year Youth Work experience in a paid or voluntary capacity (including work placements)
NVQ level 1 in Youth Work or equivalent (or working towards a relevant qualification)
Note. The successful candidates will be required to have an enhanced DBS check
Knowledge and understanding of:
- Planning and delivery or Youth Work sessions
- Working with mixed ability groups
- Working with a variety of age groups
- Working and adapting to Youth Work in different environments
- Delivering a range or positive activities and targeted support
- Understanding of the need to promote equal opportunities for all young people
- Excellent communication skills
- Safeguarding young people
